2017 Obituaries

Brandon Ray Waters, 28, of 1128 Lake Cunningham Road died December 20, 2017. He was the son of Tina Costa Waters and Phillip Ray Waters. He enjoyed doing iron work. Brandon was preceded in death by a Grandmother Betsy Waters and Uncle Jerry Waters.

Brandon leaves to cherish his memories his parents, children Desiray Nicole Waters and Derek Ray Waters; one half brother Owen Dale Waters; Grandfather Jimmy Ray Waters; Grandparents Robert Joseph Costa and Peggy Costa; two Uncles Robert( Marlana) Hensley and Greg Waters; Aunts Jackie Collins and Ledeanna Waters; one nephew Kaleb Byers; a host of other cousins, family and friends.

Willie Lee Barton,81, widower of Patsy A. Barton died Sunday December 17, 2017.
He was a son of the late Ernest and Edna Barton. Surviving are Randolph(Sandra) Downs, Linda Kinard, Willie J. Downs, Ernest Downs and Michael (Gail) Barton. Eight grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. Also a sister Earnestine H. Williams.

He was laid to rest at Brown Eternal Gardens Greer 

Emma McEntire, died on December 4, 2017. She was married to the late George McEntire, Sr. Emma was a loving, caring, generous woman who loved her family and friends. She served sixty years on the usher board at the Lower Shady Grove Baptist Church.

She enjoyed spending time with those she loved and cherished making lasting memories with them through the years. 

Emma embraced every part of her life and thrived just being in the company of her children and many grandchildren. 

She was preceded in death by her daughter Jacqueline McEntire, brother, Theodore Roosevelt Williams Jr.

Emma leaves to cherish her fond memories, five children, George McEntire Jr. of Greer, SC, Robert (Theresa) McEntire of Startex, Teressa (Carl) Thompson of Lyman, SC, Thomas (Collette) McEntire of Simpsonville, SC, James (Keisha) McEntire of Union, SC. 18 Grandchildren and 31 Great Grandchildren. Siblings, Sallie (Kent) Fields of Spartanburg, SC, Susan Williams of Wellford, SC, John Thomas (Esther) Williams of Spartanburg, Tommy (Linda) Williams of Spartanburg, Daniel (Dorothy) of San Antonio, TX, Franklin (Joanne) Williams of Spartanburg, Eugene (Marlene) Williams of Spartanburg, SC, Jimmy Williams of Wellford, SC and God-Sister Betty Todd of Greer, SC.  

Alfreda Elaine Moss Cohen, died on December 4, 2017. She was the daughter of the late Winfred Moss, Sr. and Elizabeth Ballenger Moss. She was a loving and caring woman of God. She never met a stranger and was always willing to help anyone in need. Sher was a member of Cedar Grove Baptist Church in Greer, South Carolina.   Alfreda loved to sing for the Lord, and was a member of the church choir and Reverend Jerry Jones Choir.  She was also an Eastern Star.
Alfreda was a hard worker who provided for her family. Friends and family say she was always full of strength and life and loved by many. She was preceded in death by her parents; her daughter, Kawana LaVelle Cohen; siblings, Cynthia Hyatt, Julia Moss and Frank Rector.
Alfreda leaves to cherish her fond memories three daughters, Karren Sewell, Kimberly (Patrick) McCullough, Kelmedia Nichelle Moss, all of Greer, SC; Six Grandchildren, Dektric (Tonya) Sewell of Irmo, SC,  Zuri McCullough, Keianna Alexander , all of Greer,SC,  Taji  Sewell of Greenville, SC, Kala Alexander of Greenville, SC, Taia Sewell of Columbia, SC;  Five Great-Grandchildren ;and Siblings, Omega “Mickey” Golden of Sumter, and Winford (Charisse) Moss, Jr. of Taylors, SC. 

Mr. Nathaniel Freeman, 70, died on December 2, 2017 at Lake Emory Post-Acute Care. He was the son of the Late Nathaniel Freeman and Betty Lou Cunningham. Nathaniel was of the Baptist faith, and never met a stranger. He was a graduate of Lincoln High School.  Nathaniel was the first to graduate from his immediate family. He enjoyed singing and dancing. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Sherry Freeman.  Nathaniel leaves to cherish his fond memories five children, Natalie Freeman of Simpsonville, SC, Runay Freeman, George Freeman, Nathaniel Freeman all of Greer, SC, Jay Dillard of Greenville SC; ten grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; five siblings, Margie Nesbitt of Anderson, SC, Major Freeman, Thomas Freeman, Mary Lindsey all of Greenville, SC., Doris(Morris)Drummond of Welford, SC. Aunts Eva Goldsmith of Detroit, MI, and Melissa Smith of Atlanta, Ga. 

 Sandra J. Brown

Miss Sandra Jane Brown, of Greenville, SC, was born on May 30, 1952 in Travelers Rest, SC to Hattie Ruth Hunt Brown and the late Calvin Brown, Jr.  She was a member of New St. Luke UMC.  She was a graduate of Washington High School.  She loved to read and do puzzles.
She was preceded in death by her father, Calvin Brown; grandparents, Calvin and Callie Brown, Lenorad and Winnie Hunt.  The Lord called her home on November 25, 2017.Sandra is survived by a loving mother, Hattie Ruth Brown; brothers, Harry Brown, Sam(Elaine) Brown, and Steve Brown of Travelers Rest, Calvin Brown of Greenville, Melvin (Jewell) Brown of Greenville; two sisters, Teresa (Rickie) Young of Travelers Rest, Vera (Stoney) Snoddy of Travelers Rest; one uncle, Joe V. Hunt of Miami, FL. Host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friendsFuneral Services for Ms. Sandra J.
